Lecture 1) SPEAKER - Mr. Nayan Banerjee, School of Chemical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata.

ABSTRACT - With the ever booming rise in digital data and Moore’s Law overhanging like the Damocles Sword upon the realm of physical data storage, the need of going nano and beyond is indispensable. Fabrication of technological components at and beyond the nano scale pose a serious problem not just due to mechanical limitations , but also due to the thermal storm blowing at the molecular levels. However, there exist several macromolecules which are rock stable even amidst this Brownian storm. Can we exploit molecules to store memory ? Could you be streaming a Netflix movie right from your genes ? Molecular level non-volatile durable memory storage which stands the test of time is no longer science fiction . With natural sciences aiding computational prowess, the limits are indeed shooting for the moon. Join me on a journey through this saga of harnessing chemistry for molecular memory as we witness ATGCs translate into zeroes and ones.
