Like many other programs, discovering what you're passionate about can be an exciting yet nerve racking journey! For many, they truly fell in love with planning during their first co-op. For others, they enjoyed every PLAN lecture they had attended. Many people found that everything got better by the time you could start specializing and tailoring your experience to topics that fit your urban interests.
Urban planning is full of many opportunities. There is no "perfect" path to introspection - do what excites and embrace your self-discovery phase!
It's not all about what's written on your degree! Sure specializations may catch the hiring manager's eye, but it is more important to be able to communicate insightful points during a job interview. Even if you don't have an official specialization, demonstrating proficiency in the material will get you very far!
Take courses that interest and engage you rather than just ticking boxes for a specialization. If they happen to align, great! And if not, no big deal. Learning technical skills such as GIS, CAD, Tableau, and other software may help you be more resilient in the job market!
