UWAK (English: Crow) is a psychological drama and folk horror that tells the plot behind multiple characters who are overcoming hardships and surviving in a modern-day and fictional environment of Valenzuela City, Philippines, where humans and supernatural creatures coexist. Ellias Santiago has a new work schedule in a factory at night time and investigates sudden unusual products; Maya Perlas, a barista and the partner of Ellias. She is always keeping eyes on him for his safety, comfort, and always present in times of need and sweetness; Daisy Alfonso and Pilar Salonga are being tasked to report incidents at the public channels; and Buenavondre Los Desiderios is forcing Alejandro Roces to capture anyone who reveals his schemes and take revenge, including Pilar. As their fate intertwined, everything behind the horrors lead them not just death, but rather boundless delusions.

The progressive city of Valenzuela continues the sustainability and projects for the improvement, quality, and safety of the citizens as the paradox suddenly began in such places like at Expresso Cafeteria, Karinderya, Streets, and School (flashbacks); however, these places highlight all of the crucial settings in Valenzuela City: MABAYA Shop, TCWD News Center, ESMERALDA, and Buenavondre's Office. The MABAYA Shop, a factory specializes in serving fresh meats, is also selling illegal products like human meat; TCWD News Center is a popular broadcasting channel that brings several kinds of news non-stop. This is where Daisy (News Anchor) and Pilar (News Reporter) work together; ESMERALDA, a bar owned by Buenavondre where some characters such as Buenavondre, Alejandro, and Maya met unexpectedly; and Buenavondre's office serves as the most crucial location, separated from his bar, as it complicates the life of Pilar being captured by Alejandro and everything goes downwards. The said fictional main landmarks make every character detail and story line progress the whole plot.
TITLE, STORY CONNECTIONS, AND SYMBOLISM
UWAK connects with the characteristics of every cast; aside on comparison between an aswang (a Philippine myth creature) and a crow. Both can be seen under the daylight and the shine of the moon, yet more scarier and fierce in the shade. UWAK symbolizes in such ways not just on the aswang characters, but also humans. The story focuses on personality and roles aside from the physical appearances.
Life, Death, and Afterlife - Crows are commonly known for death, but it can be a symbol for believing in afterlife and the chance of living; it is highly related to the characters because it symbolizes survivability and the hopes of each character.
Messenger - Crows can be symbolized as a messenger, best example is in the relation of spirituality and religion. In the story, the messenger can be described as Alejandro, who gives news to Buenavondre (as the “Highest Good”) about his completed missions or status about his targets.
Destiny - From the Latin word cras which means “tomorrow.” It is said that it is linked with hope and attributing powers of divination.
Transformation - This can be connected to forming a new shape or ‘character.’ For example, Buenavondre’s disguise role of being a ‘human’, camouflaging himself to be kind and collect trust to anyone so that no one will know that he preys on anyone who gets in his way.
Fearless - Crows are strong and don't show any weak spots. In UWAK, the characters portray bravery despite many hindrances. Aswang or humans, both are determined to stand and keep their heads up. An example is Pilar, who faces Buenavondre with strength and fierce.
WHO ARE THE PROTAGONIST/ANTAGONIST?
There are no particular protagonists and antagonists in the story of UWAK. It shows the life, flaws, and challenges of every single cast. They have different perspectives in life, surely that they have goals; common or not, ethical and immoral— The characters are spotlighting their wishes and missions that they want to achieve for themselves and for others. It’s up for the viewer who will judge the characters based on their experiences and point of views and at the same time, and how the viewers can relate themselves to the characters.
