Utah Highway Patrol
At just 25 years old, Colonel Dalton Beitz leads the Utah Highway Patrol with a focus on tactical readiness, professional excellence, and service-driven leadership. His rapid rise through the ranks is a reflection of his deep commitment to public safety, integrity, and frontline service.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Colonel Beitz was inspired early on by his father, a respected County Sheriff, and grounded by the strength and guidance of his mother, a dedicated stay-at-home parent. With law enforcement in his roots, service wasn’t a question—it was a calling.
Colonel Beitz began his law enforcement career at age 18 with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation (USBI), where he worked on complex cases involving organized crime, narcotics, and interagency operations. There, he developed a strong foundation in tactical precision, intelligence gathering, and high-pressure decision-making, collaborating with both federal and state partners on some of Utah’s most critical investigations.
After nearly five years at USBI, he transitioned to the Utah Highway Patrol, seeking a leadership role closer to the front lines. He brought his investigative experience and operational expertise to the department, quickly advancing from Trooper to Sergeant, then to Lieutenant, Major, and now Colonel.
Colonel Beitz leads with a hands-on approach. His leadership is grounded in visibility, accountability, and a deep respect for the men and women who wear the badge. He believes in setting the tone by example—being present, mission-focused, and unwavering in the face of challenge.
As Colonel, his priorities are clear:
Operational Readiness
Professional Conduct
Public Trust
“We’re not just enforcing the law—we’re representing the values of Utah with every interaction,” he says. “Honor, discipline, and courage must define everything we do.”
This platform exists to help the public connect with the leadership shaping the Utah Highway Patrol. Colonel Beitz remains committed to the growth and excellence of every individual within the department and to upholding the high standards the people of Utah expect and deserve.
Stay sharp. Stay loyal. Serve with pride.
