Use the power of technology to connect students to stories that reflect themselves and others through Multi-media tech sets.
Focus: Literacy, Student-Voice, Collaboration, Communication, Autonomy, Kindergarten, K-12 and Tech-use.Explore digital and analog strategies for promoting deep engagement with media resources in the elementary classroom.
Focus: Literacy, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking, Kindergarten and K-12.Instead of giving kids the option to fail, let’s discuss ways to incorporate mastery or competency-based learning in to your practice or how begin with a single lesson or unit. We will discuss how to create one-column rubrics and use badges for competency-based learning. Also, learn ways to use smart design, and student self-reflection and assessment for any class assignment.
Focus: Assessment, Mastery & K-12.We all know that every student in our class has a voice, but why is it that not every kid is heard? How can we leverage technology to amplify all student voices to ensure equity in our classrooms and schools? For this session, we will explore multiple tools that can allow every student to be heard in the classroom and beyond.
Focus: Student-Voice, Communication & Tech-use.This workshop will model different strategies to engage all learners and build community in the classroom. We will focus on daily check-in’s, circles, and restorative conversations.
Focus: Student-Voice, Social-emotional learning & K-12.It’s important for students to consider and examine both sides of an argument, especially when diving into controversial topics. Instead of one class debate on a single topic, have each student research their own topic of interest! Use Google Slides to create visual arguments, then Screencastify to share both viewpoints.
Focus: Communication, Critical thinking & Science. This fun-filled, interactive and engaging presentation is designed to share strategies, techniques, and methodologies for producing effective presentations (visual designs). The methodologies, design principles and examples covered are applicable to any presentation format or graphic design and can be used on a variety of presentation platforms.
Focus: Creativity, Communications & Tech-useThis highly engaging workshop will take attendees through both the design process and the empowerment process. We will look at how leveraging a variety of platforms for student voice and learning representation can not only ensure meaningful engagement in learning but also be a catalyst for student empowerment. Voice and choice do not go far enough, this session will help you in taking the next critical steps towards actual empowerment.
Focus: Creativity, Design, Student voice & Autonomy.Harnessing student imagination and creativity, the makerspace provides a perfect opportunity for students to bring texts to life by using the story structure as a foundation for design challenges. This session will explore multiple approaches to embedding literacy instruction in the makerspace for all ages and grades.
Focus: Literacy, Creativity & Making. These activities show simple projects created using a cardboard box, a MakerBit or a Makey Makey, along with sensors and outputs like an LED or motorized fan to replicate the computationally-enabled devices that students see around them in their everyday world. These projects can be used as the basis for a single activity, or an entire course of study in physical computing and computational thinking.
Focus: Coding, Creativity & Making. Two part hands on session introducing Ready Learner One’s XR ABC Framework (Absorb, Blend, Create) which is designed to inform and inspire the adoption of augmented and virtual reality in schools. With an overview of the framework provided, the majority of this two part session will be hands-on experience of learning opportunities. Find simple resources to use immediately and learn geeky strategies and tools to take it to the next level. AND we have STICKERS!
Part 1: Design Thinking - Hackathon - in VR. Come join us for creative fun in virtual space.
Part 2: AR-you ready for this? - get hands on with augmented reality to use immediately in your classroom.
We are all familiar with the traditional forms of assessment: Homework, quizzes, exams, projects, etc. The list goes on and on. This workshop will show attendees a variety of assessment tools and strategies to help take learning in your classroom to the next level. Tools explored will include Google Forms, Flipgrid, Nearpod, Peardeck, and HyperDocs.
Focus: Assessment, Teacher Focused & Tech-use.Learn how to teach coding to your youngest learners without even turning on a computer! Though it may seem counter-intuitive, it is actually a totally relatable way for our littles to learn. Unplugging the devices and teaching coding through more familiar mediums such as hands-on activities, makes the process both engaging and encouraging. Participants will leave this session with plugged and unplugged instructional strategies/tools to support teaching coding to littles.
Focus: Coding, Creativity, Critical thinking, Kindergarten, Primary instruction & Tech-use.This session will explore strategies to inspire writing, develop writing skills, and out-of-the-box, methods of storytelling. We will learn to use Adobe Spark Video to tell powerful stories and make Choose Your Own Adventure activities with Google Slides.
Focus: Storytelling & Communication.
Focus: Student-Voice, Collaboration, Creativity, Communication & Critical thinking.
