Dr. Eschman received a B.S. (2011) in Psychology and Sociology from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, his M.S. (2013) in Experimental Psychology from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri and his Ph.D. (2019) in Cognitive and Developmental Sciences from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. His dissertation research investigated novel methods for quantifying visual short-term memory in infancy, early childhood and in adults. His current research focuses on developing new methods for quantifying individual differences in infant visual cognition as a function of health disparities stemming from differences in socioeconomic status (SES) that predict later cognitive, social, and language outcomes in children. Specifically, his work aims to identify children at-risk for language, social, and cognitive delays and the factors, such as SES that may contribute to these individual differences.
Graduate Student
My name is Bailee Smith, and I am a second-year Psychological Science master's candidate. Under the guidance of Dr. Eschman, my thesis explores the relationship between inhibitory control and intelligence using eye-tracking methodology. My research interests include cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and biopsychology. Upon completion of my master's, I plan to pursue a PhD in one of these areas of study.
Graduate Student
Hey, I'm Chase! I am a second-year Psychological Science Master's student and am thrilled to be working in the VMAD lab. For my thesis with Dr. Eschman, I am studying how stress influences features of visual processing, such as reaction time and accuracy, in visual orienting and inhibiting tasks. In my free time, I love to compete in sports, be active outdoors, and hang with friends and family!
Graduate Student
My name is Claire Beach and I am a first-year graduate student in the Psychological Science program. My research interests include cognitive development of adolescents, neurological effects of trauma, socioeconomic status and how it affects executive function, etc. I would like to be a contributor in the research field and/or practice neuropsychology in a clinical setting.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
My name is Hans! I am a junior and majoring in Psychology. I am working on the effects of Bionic Reading on reading comprehension/reading speed. I am also interested in studying intergenerational trauma/resilience.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
My name is Adelynn Morrell and I am in my second year at UTC! I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. I'm really interested in researching memory (executive function/working memory) in infancy and child development. My plans for the future are to earn a Master's/PhD in cognitive neuroscience and possibly specialize in an area such as neuropsychology.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Hey! My name is Abigail Marak, and I am a junior student-athlete at UTC. I am a pre-medical student majoring in Psychology with minors in Biology and Honors. In the VMAD Lab, I aim to explore the intersection of neuroscience and visual attention by investigating how multisensory integration supports the development of eye-tracking and focus in individuals with atypical neural function. In the future, I plan to attend medical school to continue my education.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
My name is Alexis Jenkins, and I am a sophomore at UTC. I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies. I am really interested in all aspects of child development, specifically cognitive development and learning. In the future, I plan to complete a School Psychology program to achieve an Ed.S. to become a School Psychologist.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
My name is Rozena Akbar, I am currently an undergraduate Psychology student. I want to focus on studying the childhood developmental experiences of current college students. I wish to pursue a graduate education in School Psychology and aspire to be a School Psychologist.
