UTAMA means PRIME in Bahasa Indonesian, a reference to denote ‘importance’, ‘quality’ and ‘empowerment’.
The UTAMA project is designed to create a media and digital tool that will empower men at risk to test for HIV, engage in effective HIV prevention or treatment and get the right care they Need and Deserve. The digital healthcare model will be curated by the target population; it will promote and provide educational programmes on key HIV prevention strategies and uniquely tailor content to the diversity of their sexual health, social and cultural needs, and help manage the stigma they face to enhance health and wellbeing.
The creation of the UTAMA Digital behavioural tool will be developed using data collected from a social science study directly engaging at-risk men in Bali. Content will be curated by this population. Recruitment to this study will occur using a tailored health promotion film disseminated via digital outreach, physical outreach and from within study clinics.
The tool ultimately aims to improve the implementation of comprehensive, person-focused medical HIV treatment and prevention intervention.
