There are two very popular hikes relatively close to the department: the Living Room trail (2.3 miles round-trip, steep) and the Mount Wire trail (4.4 miles round-trip, also steep).
Near those trails, there is also the Natural History Museum of Utah and the Red Butte Gardens.
