Dr. Myroslava Hagen, a native of Minnesota, began studying music from her earliest years including the violin at age five and the clarinet at age twelve. Her principal teachers have been Fema Mazelev, Dr. Leigh Wakefield, Burt Hara, Kathy Pope, Jennifer Gerth, and Jerry Kirkbride. In addition, she has participated in workshops and masterclasses with several clarinetists including Richard Stoltzman, Alexander Fiterstein, Charles Neidich, Samuel Caviezel, Robert Spring and Loren Kitt.
In 2005, Myroslava performed Aaron Copland’s Concerto for Clarinet with the Concordia Orchestra during their three-week tour to Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Germany. Most recently, Myroslava performed Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet in A Major with the University of Arizona Philharmonic and Curnow’s Concertpiece for Clarinet Winds and Percussion with the University of Arizona Symphonic Band. Myroslava worked with David Maslanka, and commissioned "Concerto for Clarinet" in 2014. She premiered the work with the University of Utah Wind Ensemble under the direction of her husband, Scott Hagen.
Myroslava holds degrees from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and The University of Utah and a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Arizona in clarinet performance with a minor in Music Librarianship from the School of Information Resources and Library sciences.
Myroslava has 20 years of teaching experience with students in varying abilities from beginners to college students. She is a firm believer that every student with lessons can succeed and do amazing things on the clarinet!!
Myroslava lives in Salt Lake City with her husband, daughters and two dogs. She works as the Clarinet Product Manager for Eastman Music Company (www.eastmanmusiccompany.com) . She also maintains a robust clarinet studio, freelances in Salt Lake City and was a founding member and Principal Clarinet Utah Wind Symphony (2010-2019).
