On June 10, 1980, 30 planters established the United Sugarcane Planters of Davao, Inc. (USPD), a non-stock non-profit organization with the sole purpose of protecting and safeguarding the sugar planter’s interest in the Davao Sugar Central Corporation (DASUCECO).
Four years after, on April 12, 1984, USPD Marketing cooperative was created as the marketing and promotional arm of the organization, primarily to help and assist member planters sell their primary produce: sugar and molasses.
In response to the changes and challenges of the agri-business environment, the organization’s increasing membership and their respective expanding needs’, USPD Marketing Cooperative progressed as the USPD Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) in January 1991. The USPD MPC provided financial services to sugar planters for land preparation, fertilization, hauling and milling, including conducting programs on product diversification, productivity, pests and diseases control, and even academic and vocational scholarships.
USPD expanded its operation to the community, no longer purely for Sugarcane Planters and became a duly registered cooperative with CDA (Cooperative Development Authority) on September 8, 2003 as USPD Savings and Credit Cooperative.
