A shared can fleet is one where miners share ores and profit from a single mining operation. By coordinating into small squads and timing with the popping of a moon, we are able to take full advantage of our ores.
Shared can allows for the corp to cover the fuel costs, and the increased efficiency in fleet usually means more isk per hour for miners as well.
It sounds complicated, but thanks to Excel is actually pretty easy. The only thing miners and boosters need to do, is say LASERS ON in fleet chat when they start shooting rocks, and LASERS OFF when they stop. Not between rocks obviously! But if you are leaving grid for whatever reason, just let us know. Since the haulers job is to leave grid and haul ores, this is not necessary to do.
Fleet members earn points for every minute they are in fleet. At the end of the mining op, the total number of points is calculated and fleet members are paid out according to their point contribution to total points.
For example. Let's say a small fleet runs for 60 minutes. In those 60 minutes, a venture and Orca pilot runs the entire time. A retriever for 30 minutes, and a Covetor for 20 minutes.
Venture earns 2 x 60 = 120 points
Orca earns 7 x 60 = 420 points
Retriever 4 x 30 = 120 points
Covetor 6 x 20 = 120 points
Total fleet points is 780. In that hour the fleet manages to mine 50 million isk of ore. Each point is worth 50'000'000 / 780 = 64'102 isk. So the pilots who got 120 points earn 7'692'240 isk and the Orca who boosted for the full hour earns 26'922'840.
The better your mining barge and the longer you spend in fleet mining, the bigger the piece of the pie is.
In order to keep track of payouts and still increase efficiency we use a point system. Points are awarded based on the mining ability of the ship as well as the role they play in the mining operation. For example, an Orca that is working as a booster gains additional points. It would usually be worth approximately 5 points, but gains an additional 2 for the role of booster and squad leader.
Venture 2
Procurer 4
Retriever 4
Hauler 4
Skiff 5
Mackinaw 5
Orca 5 (non-booster)
Covetor 6
Orca 7 (booster)
Hulk 8
The miner's job is to mine as much ore as quickly as possible. The Majority of members will fill this role, and there are a wider selection of ships available.
Miner's will be placed into a squad with a booster pilot as their squad leader. To check who your squad leader is, use the Fleet window to see which squad you were placed in.
The booster boosts! Yeah, that should've been obvious.
In order to be listed as a booster though, we want to see at least a -35% cycle time boost and the Orca must be equipped to run all three mining boosts.
The hauler hauls! I bet you didn't see that one coming.
The FC is the poor bastard who has to run the fleet, setup the MOTD, assign roles, and just make sure things are running smoothly. The FC is acting on behalf of the corp.
