Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence
A.I. has been talked about for decades. Ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be back," we have been waiting for artificial intelligence to become a real thing and not just science fiction. However, now that we have this technology, many are scared of what it can turn into. I may not know what the future holds for a real A.I. terminator being built, but I do know that we are decades at least from anything like that being feasible. Looking at how we can use A.I. right now, you can find that it's actually a very helpful tool.
To teach you a little more about AI being used as a tool, I decided that I should take you straight to the best AI known to humans to let them explain.
I can be used as a tool in various ways to assist with a wide range of tasks. Here are some common ways you can use me as a tool:

Additionally, academic integrity is crucial, so always ensure that you are using the information I provide in an ethical and responsible manner.
I don't have personal viewpoints or emotions, as I am just a computer program created by OpenAI. However, I can provide information on the topic of AI being perceived as scary or concerning
The perception that AI is scary or concerning is a complex and multifaceted issue that varies from person to person. Here are some common viewpoints and factors that contribute to this perception:
1. **Job Displacement:** Some people are concerned that AI and automation technologies could lead to job displacement, potentially resulting in unemployment and economic inequality.
2. **Privacy Concerns:** The increasing use of AI in surveillance, data analysis, and data mining has raised concerns about the erosion of personal privacy and the potential for misuse of personal data.
3. **Ethical Dilemmas:** AI systems can make decisions autonomously, raising ethical questions about responsibility and accountability when AI systems make biased or harmful decisions.
4. **Existential Risks:** Some individuals worry about the long-term implications of advanced AI, including concerns about superintelligent AI systems that could pose existential risks to humanity.
5. **Bias and Discrimination:** AI algorithms can inherit biases present in the data they are trained on, leading to concerns about discriminatory outcomes in areas such as hiring, lending, and criminal justice.
6. **Lack of Control:** Concerns exist about the potential for AI systems to operate beyond human control or understanding, leading to unpredictable and potentially dangerous outcomes.
7. **Dependence on AI:** Some argue that increasing reliance on AI for critical functions like healthcare, transportation, and finance could make society vulnerable to AI failures or cyberattacks
It's important to note that while there are valid concerns regarding AI, there are also significant benefits and opportunities associated with the technology, including improved efficiency, healthcare advancements, and scientific discoveries.
The perception of AI as "scary" often depends on factors such as the specific application of AI, the level of transparency and accountability in its deployment, and the ethical considerations taken into account during its development and use. Public opinion and attitudes toward AI continue to evolve as the technology advances, and discussions around its impact on society and ethics are ongoing. Ultimately, the responsible development and ethical use of AI are critical factors in shaping the public perception of this technology.
That is a lot of information to take in all at once, so allow me to summarize these sections and tell you how a college student uses AI
Prompt 1 - AI can be used for a multitude of different problems. It is very effective as a brainstorming tool to generate ideas for you to use to write papers and do projects. It is very good at explaining things like how to do a math problem or what code to write for programming something. It is also extremely effective in summarizing and translating data and language. Finally, it writes about how it can also be used for companionship. If you're feeling alone or need someone to talk to, it is a great conversationalist for any topic.
Prompt 2 - Especially when a teacher is not present, AI is one of the most effective teaching tools students can use at all ages. For example, Unlike a lot of calculation websites, ChatGPT actually explains step-by-step how to solve a math equation. It can also help you with structuring essays, finding resources, and citing them for liberal arts classes. One more thing it can do is explain the concepts of any subject and give a detailed description based on your current level of understanding.
Prompt 3 - It states, "I don't have personal viewpoints or emotions, as I am just a computer program created by OpenAI. However, I can provide information on the topic of AI being perceived as scary or concerning." Then, the AI starts giving information on the topic of why people are scared of AI. Some of these topics include ethical and moral concerns of a robot, the chance of them becoming a form of "super-intelligent", and a lack of control over the programs.
How I use ChatGPT and AI - As a current engineering student, I use ChatGPT a lot for Liberal arts classes and for projects to brainstorm ideas and "get started" on a topic of discussion. I don't have to just sit and stare at a blank page; I can instead write down all of my ideas and "prompt" the AI to help me make sense of it. Another way that I use ChatGPT is to grade my papers before I submit them. If my professor gives me the rubric of an upcoming assignment and I transfer that into the AI prompter with all of the media in my response, I can have a general idea of what my grade will be, and how I can improve my content.
