Intro to Backpacking - September 21 - 22nd
Backpacking is a fundamental outdoor skill that is the base of many long-term outdoor adventures, treks and expeditions. Our program will get you prepared for your first trip with a 2-hour classroom session to go over things like: trip planning, leave no Trace principles, how to pack your backpack, personal packing list, food planning and emergency action plan. This class will be held a week in advance of our trip dates to allow people time to prepare and get necessary items they may need.
We will meet early in the morning the day our trip is set to leave, drive to our backpacking destination and hike to camp. We will spend the morning hiking, get to camp and set-up to prepare for a nice afternoon in the mountains. In the evening, we will return to camp, cook dinner together and have an evening under the stars. The next morning, we will cook breakfast and pack up our equipment. After camp is packed up, we will enjoy another couple hours in the backcountry and then head back to our vehicle to return to USAFA.
