Life Cycle of the Frog
Following our return to school after lockdown the three Senior Infant classes decided that it was time to learn a little more about frogs!
Some frog spawn was collected and we kept a very close eye on what happened over the following weeks. The teachers had a license to do this as it was being used to teach about the world around us.
First of all the little black dots in the spawn got bigger and bigger we learned that these dots were actually the tadpoles hatching out.
We made sure they had plenty broccoli to eat, air and we also cleaned their water while they were in their small container.
We watched them carefully making sure they had enough to eat
Slowly we noticed that these little tadpoles were changing in size, colour and shape.
Their back legs grew first and then their front legs began to grow.
The tadpoles were becoming froglets! We knew that for the next stage of their development the froglets needed to be taken out of their water home and put on dry land. So we set a habitat for them with grass, sticks, stones, leaves, lid with water and some special food with live mini beasts in it.
Although we were going to miss them we realised that it was time for the froglets to be released back into the wild.
So we took a video to remember them by…
