Welcome to “Urban Hydration,” a website dedicated to improving access to healthy and sustainable water for visitors and residents in New York City. I am a participant at Living City Project, working to improve New York City's resilience and public health by providing a Map of Drinking Fountains and ways to Get Involved.
By investing in public water fountains, cities and communities can address critical health challenges, promote sustainability, and ensure equitable access to a fundamental resource: clean drinking water. These benefits make public fountains a vital part of public infrastructure.
Rome is blessed with over 2,500 drinking fountains, known as nasoni, which provide residents and visitors with free fresh water all year round.
Paris drinking fountains look like art pieces and you can either have sparkling water or still.
The NYC Department of Sanitation estimates that New Yorkers discarded more than 742 million single-use plastic bottles last year alone--nearly 21 million pounds.
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection says...
"We want people to drink tap water, we want to reduce plastic to keep out of the water”- Robin Sanchez, Director of Education, DEP
The NYC Parks Department works around the clock to maintain the over 3,500 fountains in NYC parks, providing clean, safe water to park users.
