This May, the country will come to a standstill to watch the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles and Her Majesty Queen Consort Camilla at Westminster Abbey, followed by a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle. There's lots that you can get involved with from decorating your house, to coming along to our Coronation Street Gathering on Church Walk! You can find details of the Coronation, events and information about Televised programing below!
We'll be decorating our village with over 1,400 meters of bunting again, in bright colours all the way along Church Walk.
Our Highways Team will begin erecting Bunting on Friday 28th April 2023, to create a village of colour in the run-up to the Coronation. After the Coronation and Bank Holiday have passed, we'll aim to remove the bunting by Monday 15th May 2023. Please help our team by making it easier to erect our bunting, by not parking/blocking ladder access to street lighting columns and telegraph poles. Your cooperation is much appreciated.
We'll be raising a special Coronation Flag on our Flag Pole at St. John the Baptist Church from Friday 28th April 2023 and throughout the summer. There is currently no flag flying on the pole, due to delayed painting works, the works are expected to be completed and the new flag raised in time for the Coronation!
Our Church Maintenance Team will erect Bunting on Friday 28th April 2023 at the church and our Highways Team will erect more Street Bunting through the church field, between the telegraph poles leading up to Manor Farm.
Don't forget to decorate your home with colourful bunting and decorations ready for the Coronation Weekend, we'll be giving away a prize for the best decorated house, so get planning your decorations!
Unfortunately we won't be able to provide free packs of bunting this year, like we did for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year, but you can buy plenty of your own for less than £10 from sites such as Amazon or Ebay! Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
The Coronation Service will take place on the morning of Saturday, 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. The Coronation is a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry.

We'd also like to hear from you if you have any garden furniture or gazebos which you could loan us for the event, please do get in touch!
To enable us to run our event safely, Peterborough City Council has granted us a permit to temporarily close a section of Church Walk. While the image shows a large closure area, this is only for safety, the event will be taking place to the left of the Telephone Kiosk, leaving room for Emergency Vehicles and Urgent Residential Access, meaning the area which we do close may be smaller. The road will be closed on Sunday My 7th 2023 from 10:45am until 4:30pm.
For further information and enquiries regarding this Temporary Closure, please get in touch with our Team: upton.community.council@gmail.com
