With the NHL finalizing details to hold the 2024 NHL Draft at Sphere Las Vegas on June 28 to 29, an ultra-talented first overall centreman candidate in Macklin Celebrini, a slate of talented defencemen primed to go in the first round, and no less than 5 intriguing prospects out of Russia contending to going the first round, this draft has no shortage of entertainment value. You'll notice a familiar name as a riser in this edition of the rankings, son of a former NHLer named Jarome - one Tij Iginla. 

This is our April update to our patented quintessential spreadsheet format, composed by the incomparable Chief of Scouting, E-Mac. The big mover from our preseason rankings has been creating a buzz in hockey circles - Cayden Lindstrom. The 6'3 centre is lighting up the WHL this season. Defenseman Anton Silayev has also moved up to the top 5. Defenseman Zeev Buium is another big mover, having moved up from 29th to the top 10.

For this edition, you will notice additional tabs for prospects < 5'11 as well as for overage prospects, that is, having gone through at least 1 year of eligibility.

With the highly touted, talent-laden 2023 NHL entry draft now in the rearview mirror, it’s time to switch gears to the intriguing 2024 draft class. There will undoubtedly be plenty of jockeying for position amongst the eligible prospects with offseason training to be done, and a full season of hockey yet to be played.

Upside Hockey's 2024 NHL Draft Early Rankings: The Top 96

Headed by touted probable first overall candidate Macklin Celebrini, this group of hockey prospects may not match up to that of its 2023 counterparts, but this is a fascinating pack in its own right.

This is undoubtedly a stronger year for defenseman. Early on, it appears to be a weaker drive class with respect to prospects from Sweden. Finland, however, has a much stronger presence compared to 2023.
