Spring Painting Party March 15th - Join us!
This foundational drawing class will help students in the 9 - 12 age range learn vital drawing skills that will shape and mold their unique art style in the future. Drawing is the first step in most art creations, therefore it should be the first thing learned! If you can't draw something properly and understand how to establish value (shading) within an image, all other art will look off or like it's missing something. A great painting starts with drawing, a concept for a sculpture must be thought out and drawn with measurements before the materials come out. As an artist, you don't want to waste materials because they cost money, therefore plan or draw out what you desire to create first then build as you go. All that to say this course is very important and step 1 as a growing artist.
How to sketch out an object, image, or scene in front of them in real time
How to recognize shapes, areas of shadows, and highlights within an image, object, or scene
How to add value or shade their drawing with various techniques to ensure the image looks life like
Session 1: Basic drawing introduction with explanation of tools and concepts vital to drawing. Students will be given a 12x18 size piece of paper to doodle and draw whatever they choose while utilizing the shading concepts presented in class. By the end of class, students will have a grasp on the technique of drawing as well as a full image based on the assignment presented in class. All pictures will be sprayed with a varnish to ensure the pencil doesn't transfer onto hands or the environment. This drawing foundation will help them in the following sessions or future courses.
Session 2: Students will be given one 19x24 size piece of paper with one goal - to fill it with elements, value, and details. This assignment will help students feature all drawing techniques learned in one image.
Session 3: Students will continue working on their projects. We will have a discussion toward the end of class about the art created.
*Limit 15 Students per Session*
