Spring Painting Party March 15th - Join us!
Drawing isn't just little indications, like the image to the left. No, drawing is the foundation of all art! You can create little indications or all the details. This foundational drawing course will teach students vital drawing skills that will shape and mold their unique art style in the future. Drawing is the first step in most art creations, therefore it should be the first thing learned! If you can't draw something properly and understand how to establish value (shading) within an image, all other art made will look off or like it's missing something. A great painting starts with drawing, a concept for a sculpture must be thought out and drawn with measurements before the materials come out to begin forming the piece. As an artist, you don't want to waste materials because they cost money, therefore plan or draw out what you desire to create first then build as you go. All that to say this course is very important and step 1 as a growing artist. See course outlines, dates and times, and costs below within our various levels to fit your drawing needs! ↓
Based on what we believe students should know in terms of drawing, we have laid out several levels that build on each other with time and effort. Here is a rough outline of each of them:
Level 1: Basics - Foundational Drawing
Level 2: Medium - Landscape Drawings
Level 3: Maximum - Still Life Drawings
Level 4: Advanced - Landscapes, Still Life, and Portraits

Drawing is a building block used to create all artwork. If you haven't had an in depth drawing class before, this is a great place to start!

Still life drawing can be intimidating but with the right teacher, you will master the art in no time. Why is still life drawing relevant or important? We are so glad you asked! Still life drawing isn't just a timeless act done like famous artists throughout history. No, this art form is vital because it encourages the artist to draw the world around them as they see it. The amount of highlights, shadows, and gray areas are determined by the artist and what they see. Through this art form, many are able to harness their drawing skills to create something advanced and almost life like. Drawing a still life takes skill because anyone can draw a bowl of fruit, but how many can truly establish depth and light within an image?
Session 1: Basic explanation of tools and materials followed by a demonstration with said explained items. Students will draw what they see sitting before them on the table using a 12x18 size piece of paper with teacher assistance as needed. The task is to sketch the objects sitting in front of them while slowly building depth and value as they add layers of graphite pencil throughout the two hour session.
Session 2: Students will be provided a 19x24 piece of paper and still life objects to set up as they desire in front of them. Students will begin to sketch out the still life lightly with graphite pencil then begin building with various pencils. An image of the still life will be taken to ensure students are able to complete their still life drawings by the end of session 3. Drawings and kits can be taken out of class as needed by checking out items with Jackie at the desk before departing class.
Session 3: Students must complete their project during class. Final 15 minutes of class will be discussion about the art created.
1 Session - One 12x18 piece of paper, graphite pencils, erasers, a sharpener, still life objects, and more.
