SMSRG aims to embark leading research on various multidisciplinary research domains including Mechanical & Manufacturing, Aerospace, Energy & Green Technology, and Electrical & Electronics. Our groups are composed of research experts of the following themes: Intelligent Sensors and Systems, Medical Engineering, Smart Composites and Coatings, Additive and Digital Manufacturing, Advanced Flow Control and Energy Harvesting, and Multiphysics Computational Modelling.

7/7/2026 - PhD viva success: SMSRG PhD student, Ms. Rou Xuan Goh, successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Electrochemical Capacitance Behaviour of Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) with and without Metallic Nanoparticle Loading".
24/6/2026 - Research seminar: Gavin Teoh, University of Southampton Mechanical Engineering alumnus and PhD student at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology visited SMSRG. Gavin presented his work on indoor airborne particle dispersion and how portable air cleaners (PAC) can help to reduce particle concentrations in neonatal wards.
1/3/2026 - Grant success: Prof Suan Hui Pu has secured a grant for collaborative research with KPJ Healthcare. The 3-year project is entitled "Exploring The Utility of AI Enabled Flexible Strain Sensors for High-Accuracy Respiratory Rate and Lung Health Monitoring".

2/12/2025 - Conference paper: Prof Suan Hui Pu from the Smart Manufacturing and Systems Research group presented a paper at the 10th International Conference on Intelligent Informatics and BioMedical Sciences (ICIIBMS 2025).
26/11/2025 - PhD viva success: SMSRG PhD student, Ms. Laila Fadhillah, successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Modelling Electromechanical Interaction of Myocardium and Coronary Circulation for Investigation of Heart Diseases".
30/5/2025 - PhD viva success: SMSRG PhD student, Ms. Xue Chen, successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Laser-Induced Graphene for Structural Health Monitoring of Composite Materials".
