Audit vs. Tax
Professors Mark Peterson and Scott Pickett guided students through completing an "Audit vs. Tax Scorecard" to help them decide which career path to pursue. They discussed the similarities and differences between audit and tax, discussing topics like team work, remote work, and exit opportunities.

Financial Statements: the Who, How, and Why
Our Executive Vice President, Skyler Sanchez, hosted a lecture explaining the key concepts of the financial statements and how they are used. Topics covered include each of the financial statements, the general ledger and accounting systems, and the basics of ratio analysis.

Insights and Icebreakers with Student Leaders
Students learned about the mission of the Accounting Club, the new process for membership, our new mentorship program, upcoming events for the semester, and how to get the most out of their participation.
Additionally, students heard from a panel of four Accounting Club officers, speaking on topics like career paths, advice for students, and perspectives on the accounting major.

Students learned about the variety of career paths available to an accounting graduate, breaking down options in public accounting, industry, and government.
Specialized career paths discussed include advisory and consulting, forensic accounting, compliance (on the corporate side), compliance and regulations (in government), and C-suite roles.

SoFi Transformation Team
SoFi's Transformation Team presented about their work to automate processes and leverage technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness in SoFi's accounting department. Students learned about why automation is a highly valuable skill and were able to ask personalized questions during the open Q&A segment.

Resume Workshop
Students learned about essential elements of a resume, how to properly format one, and how to write powerful statements to illustrate the impact made in an experience. After the presentation, Accounting Club officers spent the remaining 40 minutes providing personalized, one-on-one help to attending students.

Students learned strategies for conducting informational interviews with professionals such as coffee chats, lunches, and office tours. The meeting concluded with a ~30 minute networking practice and social hour.

Three professionals from O.C. Tanner's accounting department, each of whom are University of Utah alunmni, shared their insights on a career in industry, their life experiences, and advice for students. Interview Workshop
Students learned the the PAR (Problem, Action, Result) method for answering interview questions, strategies to better prepare for interviews, how to conduct oneself in an interview, and what to do after the interview. We also covered some common interview questions and shared a list of sample questions to ask.

Students learned tips and tricks to improve their networking. Our presenters shared advice on how to best introduce oneself, strategies for remembering names of the dozens of professionals one might meet while recruiting, and when and how to send a proper follow-up message.
