This is the part of our interview day where we have a student run Q&A session - one of the highlights of the day for our applicants.
Admissions selects one current student to moderate the session; and 4 other student students to serve on the panel
The moderator will lead brief introductions, facilitate the conversation to make sure each question is answered, and monitor the chat box.
Since the session will be a brief one it is not necessary for each volunteer to answer every question verbally. You can always type your response in the chat box – this is a great way to add your perspective!
Typically, this session lasts 30 minutes - the moderator will keep track of time as well.
If you want to share your contact information with the applicants, you can feel free to do so – the best place to do this is in the chat box. There is no pressure to do this!
-Be early, sign into the virtual session 5 minutes before the start time
-Please remind the applicants
During this time they are welcome to turn off their camera and eat their lunch or take an eye break
This session may go to 12:40pm if everyone has lots of questions – again, applicants please do what you need to do to feel ready for your interviews
The admissions team will place those interviewing first in a waiting room at 12:40pm
-Lead brief introductions of volunteers (have current students say their name, where they are from, year in medical school, briefly state any campus involvement/interest groups. There is not enough time to have applicants introduce themselves)
-It can be helpful to put this in the chat – for example “everyone say their name, where they are from, what school they went to, what year they are in med school, and their favorite place to visit in Greenville”

-Remind applicants our preferred way of asking questions is to use the “raise hand feature”
They learned how to do this earlier in the day (go to the smiley face with the plus size and the raise hand is at the top, above the reactions). They can lower the hand when they have asked their question.
We got feedback from moderators that this was preferred to avoid people talking over one another
-Facilitate conversation when needed
-As moderator you have the ability to set the tone, we encourage you to engage, make everyone feel welcome, and remember – you are a panelist too, so please participate in responding as well
-Monitor chat box
-Ensure all questions are answered
-Watch the time to prepare to close out the session at 12:30/12:40, a representative from our team will come on and let the applicants know what is next
