How do we effectively learn Japanese with VR?

The Mondly app is definitely a very useful way to help us practice all the grammar points we have learnt in class by immersing ourselves in a real-life situation. Just practicing with just each other through textbook examples or answering the workbook, is simply not enough practice and we will face these difficulties when facing a real-life situation. Virtual Reality will help force us to think of ways to reply to the AI, whether it be to tell them to take us to the hotel, or just simply say where we're from, the VR world is forcing us to think critically about how we need to reply to move further into the story. The difficulty setting they let us choose at the beginning also let us set up the challenge with how much help we want from the app in our replies.

What are VR's pros and cons?

I can definitely see how useful this is in helping us revise what we had learnt as well as forcing us to practice our listening skills. Immersing ourselves in situations we commonly face in the real world, this is enabling us to get the practice we need as well as the joy of being able to speak and converse in a different language. Though this will be beneficial in learning, by overusing the VR in helping us learn, we will get bored fairly quickly at the repetitiveness and may lose interest. I do face a few technical and practical challenges when using VR. If say, we were to conduct this in a classroom, then with over 20 students talking over each other, it will be very difficult for the mic to pick up what we wanted to say and will just make us grow frustrated at having to repeat ourselves. Though the app doesn't force us to stand and move around, if students want to move around then it will be very likely that we'll see everyone just bumping into each other.

Do you have any concerns?

The only concern I have is how it is fairly easy getting motion sickness from all the moving around. But if we shorten our usage time then the problem can be prevented.
