Anxiety and depression are among the most prevalent mental health challenges affecting students today. Our team chose to focus on these issues after speaking with Mr.Trayler, our school's Crisis Counselor, who highlighted that many students in our school and community struggle with them due to many things like academic stress, social pressure, and personal hardships. Given how widespread these challenges are we felt it was important to raise awareness, provide support, and promote strategies to help students navigate their mental health. By addressing anxiety and depression we hope to create a more open and supportive environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to seek help.
These are essential protective factors for anxiety and depression because they help regulate emotions, reduce stress, and build resilience. Self-Care, such as maintaining a balanced routine, engaging in hobbies, and practicing mindfulness, allows in individuals to recharge mentally and physically, preventing burnout, and emotional exhaustion. Meanwhile, healthy coping mechanisms, like deep breathing, journaling, or exercising, provide constructive ways to manage overwhelming emotions, rather than resorting to unhealthy habits like avoidance or negative self talk. These strategies empower individuals to navigate challenges more effectively, improve overall mental well being.
