Join the Laboratory for Battery Research & Innovation (LBRI)

We are always looking for motivated researchers to join our team at the School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Sydney. LBRI works at the forefront of battery energy storage, spanning solid‑state batteries, aqueous zinc-ion batteries, Li-metal batteries, Na-ion batteries, operando electrochemistry, and unveiling structure-function relations in battery materials. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of battery science and contributing to high‑impact research, we would love to hear from you.

Postgraduate Research Opportunities (PhD & MPhil)

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship — AUD $39,206/year (2026 rate)
University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA) — covers tuition + stipend (aligned with RTP)
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Research Training Program Scholarships — up to AUD $53,608/year
Faculty Top‑Up Scholarships (attached to RTP/UPA)
Tuition Fee Scholarship (TFS) + Research Stipend (covered by supervisor)
UNSW / Home Country Joint Scholarships [e.g., CSC)

Undergraduate & Postgraduate Coursework Thesis Projects (Thesis A/B/C)

We welcome undergraduate and coursework Master’s students interested in thesis research (courses 4951/9951, 4952/9952, 4953/9953). Students will work closely with LBRI researchers on frontier topics in:

Solid electrolytes
Cathode materials
Aqueous zinc‑ion batteries
Operando electrochemical methods
Cell design and prototype development
