Unseen Scars is where the untold stories of Agent Orange survivors meet the world, transforming forgotten histories into a symbol of resilience and recovery.
We are a group of passionate young leaders from the U.S.-Vietnam Youth Leadership Cohort, a joint initiative by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV). Our project, Unseen Scars, focuses on the ongoing impact of Agent Orange, a toxic legacy of the Vietnam War. We believe in the power of storytelling to shed light on the struggles faced by survivors and their descendants, aiming to raise awareness and advocate for meaningful action.

Mission
Our mission is to capture and share the personal stories of Agent Orange victims — from U.S. and Vietnamese veterans to civilians and their descendants — to give voice to those affected by this silent war legacy. Through these narratives, we seek to promote greater awareness, provide resources, and advocate for justice and support for these victims.
Vision
We envision a world where the legacy of Agent Orange is fully acknowledged, and the victims are adequately supported and recognized. By fostering understanding and dialogue between communities, we want to contribute to healing and reconciliation to ensure that the ongoing consequences of Agent Orange are addressed and that future generations learn from the past.
Our Logo
The logo for the Unseen Scars project carries deep symbolism, reflecting both the traumatic legacy of Agent Orange and the enduring hope for healing and renewal.
At the center of the design is a geometric sun-like figure radiating outward, symbolizing both the far-reaching effects of Agent Orange as well as hope and resilience. The sun traditionally represents new beginnings, optimism, and life. In this context, it highlights the belief that despite the widespread devastation caused by this chemical during the Vietnam War, there remains a path toward recovery, justice, and healing for the affected communities.
The yellow-orange rays convey the harmful and pervasive impact of Agent Orange, mimicking the dispersal of the chemical itself, which touched countless lives and environments. This color is also a direct visual cue to the chemical’s namesake and its lasting legacy.
The green typography for "Unseen Scars" contrasts sharply with the orange rays, symbolizing growth, regeneration, and the environment. It serves as a visual metaphor for the ongoing efforts to restore the environment and improve the lives of those impacted. The bold, uppercase lettering conveys a sense of strength and urgency, emphasizing the importance of shedding light on the enduring, yet often overlooked, scars left behind by Agent Orange.
