Course Outline

Building Making developed our understanding of detailing by exploring how materials work together, what are the assemblies that is coherent with the overall idea of the building. We learned to create Working Drawings for construction and generate our own Bill of Quantities and cost estimates. It deepened our technical grasp of building design, covering structural systems, materials, and construction processes. Paying attention to the detail played a major role ensuring that every aspect of the building aligns with the overall concept. It sharpened our Project Management and Problem-Solving skills in the field of building design and construction.

Site, Site Forces & Context

Design Intent & Spatial Detail

The trees on the site cast shifting shadows throughout the day, creating temporary shaded spots which serve as resting point for passerby, with some becoming seating areas, where the surrounding walls are lowered to provide comfortable seating for people to rest. In accordance with the sun's trajectory walls are crafted with intricate jalis placed strategically at specific locations, orientations, and inclination. This design enables the modulation of light resulting in pockets of space characterized by a blend of shadow and illumination.
