Dr. Sarah Mumm created an escape room for the second book in my Jenny Figment series, Andy’s Space Friends. Every detail from the book was brought to life through interactive puzzles, riddles, and decoding activities. She meticulously matched the escape room sections to specific characters and plot elements within the storyline. Each individual section then gave the answer needed to move on to the next, the unique solutions providing clues toward the ultimate goal and eventual “escape”. I was completely blown away by her creativity and attention to detail. She extracted plot points and character descriptions that tested even my own knowledge of the book. Amazing!

I was referred to Dr. Sarah Mumm by Jay Miletsky to create a lesson for my book Kobe the Koala and the School Bus Mission. I was absolutely floored by her response to my book, and even more ecstatic about the lesson she pulled from it. She saw more in the story than I ever imagined.
Sarah put together a Kobe Cares Campaign that I didn’t even see coming. Her depth of expertise in education shines through, and I know her work will truly help schools reinforce positive behavior and bring even more safety to school buses.
Thank you, Sarah, for your insight, your expertise, and for creating something that has the potential to take this book from state to state.

I absolutely loved the escape room experiences Dr. Mumm created. They are all based on the books our district was reading as part of the One School, One Book initiative. They were the perfect mix of challenge, excitement, critical thinking, and teamwork.
What made it so fun was that the tasks weren’t random. Each challenge revealed something about the book we were about to read, so every time we solved a clue, we felt like we were uncovering part of the mystery. The clues were connected cleverly to key events, characters, or themes from the stories. It made us curious, excited, and actually invested in finding out what the book could be.
Each class was completely engaged from start to finish, and it was amazing to see everyone working together and using details from the book to crack each clue.
By the end, everyone was talking about our guesses and debating what the story might be. The escape room didn’t just help us decide—it made us want to read the book. Honestly, it was the most fun way we’ve ever been introduced to a novel. These experiences were by far one of the most memorable and fun activities we’ve ever done in our district.

This is a sample of an interactive race through professional learning. This sample was created for a staff development professional event that was based on a book study the staff had been reading during the school year. Activities provided opportunities for staff to further share, reflect and apply their reading in a friendly competitive way.
This sample comes from a full escape room built around the book The One and Only Ivan. Students attended the escape room (built in an empty classroom) after reading the book. The activities all focused on the charcters, the events of the story and having students reflect on what it takes to work together, listen to each other and find their voice.
This sample comes from a classroom escape kit based on the book Andy's Space friends. The clues for the escape were based on the events in the story but extended them to connect to the students. Students were able to open a locked box based on every clue leading them to an end prize! Students were also asked to reflect on their ability to collaborate, communicate and share the experience with each other.
This sample comes from an escape activity based on the book Patrick Pickblebottom Everyday Mysteries. Students become detectives, just like the main character of the book, in order to solve clues and locate the missing school mascot! This activity also had a community service campaign embedded that took students to different businesses in the community to find clues.
