Meredith E. Mitchem, MLS, CA

Archivist, Atlanta Housing

With a culmination of experience serving in a variety of archival and historical collection settings, Meredith Mitchem began serving as Archivist to Atlanta Housing October 13, 2014 where she became the first Archivist to serve in that capacity. Mitchem has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina in English with a minor in Anthropology. She began her endeavor to become an archivist in earnest in 2005 as a graduate student in historical collections librarianship while employed as an assistant to the conservator at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. "Though I had an English BA and my original pursuit was a Masters in Literature, I realized my interests were driven by history and the human story. A career in archives was a way for me to indulge my desire to collect, analyze and further preserve the record of the human story. This record of human events includes the documentation and preservation of stories of those who have been historically suppressed and underrepresented in archives." Mitchem received her Masters of Library Studies Degree with a concentration in historical collections in 2007 and is a certified archivist from the Academy of Certified Archivists.
