Your next task is to prepare an oral presentation on your invented movie. However, you have to present it to your classmates as if it was a real movie you watched last night, and tell them whether you liked it or not, and why. In a way, this is like an oral review.
Reviews are useful so that people know if it is worth it to spend time watching something – to know what to expect, and whether it is likely or not that they will enjoy it. For this reason, we are now going to take a look at some reviews.
Read these reviews carefully. Which films are they talking about?
I enjoyed the romantic plot, but there were too many dramatic moments. My favorite scene was when Bella and Edward were talking in the forest, and she told him about her suspicions. I liked the movie, but in my opinion, their relationship is unhealthy.
The horror was overwhelming, with too many jump scares. My favorite scene was when the kids finally faced Pennywise, but, from my perspective, the storyline lacked depth.
The love story was captivating, but there were too many tragic events. My favorite scene was when Jack and Rose were dancing, but the ending was too sad.
The suspense kept me hooked, but there was too much violence. My favorite moment was when Katniss outsmarted her opponents, but the pace was too fast.
My favorite scene was when the Ghostface killer was revealed, but there was not enough humor to balance the tension.
2. Imagine you organized a PowerPoint party with your friends, in which you tell each other about the last movie you watched. Prepare a 5-10 minute long presentation with your group and tell your friends:
1. Why the movie’s poster caught your attention and made you want to watch it.
2. What the movie is about.
3. The scene that stood out to you the most (your favorite scene, a scene you didn’t like, a shocking scene…).
4. Whether you liked it or not, and why.
More instructions and tips:
No need to prepare an elaborate PowerPoint or Canva presentation. It is enough to simply show your poster to your classmates.
No need to rehearse the presentation too much - I want you to explain the content in a natural way, without reading or memorizing it.
3. While your classmates are presenting their movies, your task is to review them. Attention! 👁️ You are reviewing their movies, not their presentations or their creations.
Act as if you had watched the movie, and give your opinion on whether you enjoyed it or not, and why. Write a short review (50 words minimum) and post it on the padlet below. Take into account the rubric, and don't forget to add your name!
4. (optional / for fast finishers) Create a meme about one or more of the movies that have been created in your class (it can be yours!). Then, post it on the jamboard.
