Short Biography

Seongah Jeong received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea, in 2010, 2012, and 2015, respectively. From 2013 to 2014, she was a Visiting Scholar with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ, USA. From 2015 to 2016, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Information and Electronics Research Institute, KAIST. From 2016 to 2017, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA. In 2009, she was a Research Intern with the Electria Wireless Sensor Network Laboratory, Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

From 2017 to 2019, she was a Staff Engineer with Samsung Research, Seoul, Korea, where she contributed to global standardization efforts in UWB, IoT, and wireless systems within IEEE and major industry consortia. From 2019 to 2023, she was an Assistant Professor with the School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea, and from 2023 to 2024, she was an Associate Professor with the same institution. Since 2024, she has been an Associate Professor with the School of Advanced Fusion Studies, University of Seoul, Seoul, Korea.

Her research interests include integrated communications, computing, control, localization, and sensing, with a focus on cloud/edge computing, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), and non-terrestrial networks (NTN). She has contributed to the development of PHY/MAC technologies for UWB-based secure ranging systems, and her contributions to the IEEE 802.15.4z standard have been adopted in commercial devices such as Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone. She holds multiple U.S. patents in wireless communication and spatial awareness technologies.

Dr. Jeong was a recipient of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Jack Neubauer Memorial Award in 2021 and was recognized as a Top 25 Downloaded Article by the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2023. She serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society (OJ-COMS) and was recognized as an Exemplary Editor in 2025. She is also an Editor of the Journal of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (J-KICS) and has served as a Guest Editor for international special issues. She is an IEEE Senior Member and has been actively involved in IEEE activities, including serving as an IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals Committee Member in 2026, IEEE Seoul Section Young Professionals Chair in 2026, IEEE Seoul Section Women in Engineering Vice-Chair in 2025, and IEEE Taegu Section Treasurer from 2023 to 2024.
