Whitehead Taking OPiTIONS!
“Welcome to Dr. McGinnis, English 1101 Podcast, on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, the show Colson Whitehead Reinvents Himself, Again in his books convey many things that ingenious uncover. I’m Juan Aguilar and today we’re talking about what the author is trying to get out of his stories. So, make sure to stay tuned to what unruffling mysteries behind Whiteheads' attention are.
In this Article, Alter is reacting to Whitehead’s meaning of different genres which relate to non-fictional life occurrences. While Alter and Whitehead are walking privately in the streets of New York they imply to each other about the scheme of Harlem Shuffle and other books like the “Underground Railroad” and many more. As they go along, Alter explains the reasoning behind his books.
After founding this article I was very undecided what to pick out, but waiting for that right moment between the two week timespan. The fact that this topic touches a lot of culturally diverse people is what brought me here to this podcast today.
Alter uses techniques that are simple but yet efficient. But, evaluating writer usage of skills. That Alter tone, diction, and how she is appealing to her audience to clarify his further discussion what her intended purpose for writing this article was, and spilling out the main points of this article.
Alter at first started out introducing herself and after that she started out with one of Whitehead quotes “I’m not a criminal mastermind”(sent. 1). But, throughout the article she mentions about Whitehead's novels and as you get along he relates them to other thing in life and that occur the previous live and it may still go-on today.Alter is breaking down piece by piece to make every suggestion of Whitehead clearer to understand what to state his purpose. She is using rhetorical strategy ethos, to show the audience that she is honest about her work showing the credibility of an author's work and quotes.
Alter emphasizes a big impact into society today what feelings they may have and what other unconditional gestures. “Harlem Shuffle,” which Doubleday will release on Tuesday, is his 10th book and his first crime novel, and perhaps the most surprising thing is that it took him this long to write”(para. 4). This sentence is just mind boggling. It just shows his dedication and shows what extent he will try to go to achieve it.
Alter further herself by establishing other boundaries to set apart. “For all his ironic swagger, more than 20 years after publishing...sometimes feels like a novice. “Doesn’t get easier or harder...writing,”it’s just always kind of terrible”(para. 8). She is using the author's credibility to gain more trust, also using pathos to show that she approves of what he is saying. “Still, in writing about Harlem in the 1960s, Whitehead found himself returning to themes that have long preoccupied him: racial injustice, class disparities, entrenched power structures that allow the ruling class to exploit the vulnerable...in the novel occurs shortly after the Harlem riot of 1964...out after a 15-year-old Black student named James Powell was fatally shot by...protests erupted across the United States in response to the killing of George Floyd…”it was very strange...picked the week after the Harlem riot because I didn’t want to…”(para. 17&18). But, when using the logos, pathos, she states out the evidence that has happened generation after generation to appeal with emotion that touches people's life appearances. Alter later wrote about his background and past events that occurred.
I properly believe the purpose of Alter’s article was to inform the audience about his novels which relate to him and follow up. The tone was very vibrant; it felt like it was right for the subject. The diction that he uses is very simple and easy for many people to follow. Throughout the article she shows what the purpose and while she listens to him speak about what really was conveyed in those books.
I further believe that Alter of her article was able to achieve her point across and is able to inform upon the topic.
