Turns out that the culprit was the IIS Url Rewrite module. I had defined a rule that redirected calls to Default.aspx (which was set as the start page of the web site) to the root of the site so that I could have a canonical home URL. However, apparently VS had a problem with this and got confused. This problem did not happen when I was using Helicon ISAPI_Rewrite so it didn't even occur to me to check.

If you have a rewrite rule that redirects (or otherwise catches), say, .aspx files, somewhere else then you will get this error. The solution is to add this section to the beginning of your web.config's // section:

Until today, I could expect F5 (Start Debugging) to start up a new local VS web server, open an IE window, and then issue an "unable to start program :nnnn/Login.aspx" and "access is denied" error pop-up. If I closed the IE window, waited a few seconds, and then clicked F5 again, it usually started up my web app in debug mode just fine from that point on.

But today, that all changed. I did not change any configuration on my web app, which has been running fine, but I did add a couple of more classes to one of my subprojects. At this point, I could never get past the "unable to start program" message. I could run my app without debugging, but that was rather pointless. I even tried attaching to a running (non-debug) IE process, but that did not work.

After running several times, I still usually get a "unable to start" error the first time after a recompile, but I can still usually get a debuggable running app to start after the second or third try. At least I'm back to where I was yesterday.

I am attempting to create an FAQ Site using the O365 Sharepoint Teams Site. As part of the FAQ experience, I would like to have the top search bar be able to search aspx sites only within the said site, with the keywords able to look through the title and contents of the sites.

Currently, I have routed the search bar using the Site Collection settings to be _layouts/15/search.aspx , but this gives me the results of all the sites and even my personal folders and items. The reason why I route it in the first place is because the original settings give me _layouts/15/search.aspx/siteall?q=, giving no results at all. When I was Googling for answers, I presume that an OOB will allow me to search for results within a site, but apparently that was not the case.

The interesting part about this is that I can achieve the result that I want when I customise the Search Result Sources under the Site Collection Administration, when I Query transform and tested {searchTerms} Path:"" File Type:aspx, but I am unable to replicate that experience to the Search Bar.

Instead, you should login with just the WebAlias that was set up during the installation of Aras Innovator as you have pointed out in your comment.
