Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755 - 1843), a German physician, is considered the Father of Homeopathy. He received his M.D. from Erlangen University in 1779. In the early 1790s, he recognized that symptoms produced by a given substance on a healthy person were similar to the symptoms of a diseased state that the same substance was used to cure. From this observation, he asserted the theory that “like cures like." In other words, diseases are cured by the same drugs or substances that produce - in healthy persons - symptoms similar to the diseases. Through a process of dilution and succussion, the substances become potentized. It is through this process that a substance becomes curative. Homeopathy is used to treat an extremely wide range of conditions with great success. Both physical, such as arthritis, and psychological, such as anxiety, can be treated with homeopathy. Homeopathy is non-toxic and does not cause side effects.
Over 200 million people use homeopathy on a regular basis around the world. In Brazil, Chile, India, Mexico, Pakistan, and Switzerland, homeopathy is included in the national health systems. Homeopathy is very popular in Europe, the Middle East, South and Central America, Australia, and Southwest Asia. In addition, over 6 million Americans and 10.3 million Canadians use homeopathy regularly.
The market for homeopathy is currently growing at a moderate rate and there have been substantial increases over the last few years. It is estimated that in the next five years, homeopathy will increase significantly. In Britain, the homeopathic market is growing 20% per year. According to precidentresearch.com, in the US, homeopathy is poised to grow at a noteworthy CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 12.3% from 2021 - 2030.
Homeopathy is the second-most-used medical practice in the world. Traditional Chinese Medicine is first and Western Medicine is fourth.
In 1918, when the Spanish Flu pandemic hit, the mortality rate of individuals treated with homeopathy was only 1.05%, compared to 30% for those treated with conventional medicine. In Ohio, 24,000 cases of the flu were treated allopathically with a mortality rate of 28.2%, while 26,000 patients treated with homeopathy had a mortality rate of 1.05%. That same year, Connecticut reported 6,602 cases of the flu treated with homeopathy and 55 deaths, less than 1% mortality rate. Lastly, during WWI on a troop ship sailing to Europe, Dr. Roberts, the physician on board, reported 81 cases of the flu: "All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment," reported Dr. Roberts.
