Our story is very unique. We are excited to share with you how our desire to help the Pakistani people was birthed and the joy we have had connecting with doctors on the other side of the globe.
Dr. Fawad Hussain was giving lectures on homeopathy, which I (Julie) attended virtually. At the time, we were seeking health answers for one of our children, so Dr. Hussain agreed to work with and treat our child. Shortly after starting homeopathic treatment, our family, especially our child, experienced life changing results!
During our frequent conversations, Dr. Hussain shared some of the many successes in his practice and also expressed his desire to build a homeopathic teaching hospital. This hospital would train future homeopaths, provide healthcare at a reasonable fee, and offer free and low-cost health care to those in need. This resonated deeply with Ray and I. After discussing it together and with trusted friends, we ultimately decided to ask Dr. Hussain if we could partner with him to raise funds here in America. He agreed to allow us to join with him so that his vision, now our shared vision, could become reality in Pakistan.
Within 6 months, Umeed Project went from a conversation into a reality. We have established a Board, obtained our 501c3 status, met with those who have professionally worked in the non-profit/medical field worldwide, met numerous times with our Pakistani Team discuss our next steps, as well as met virtually with doctors and medical students. We have been connecting with potential local, national and international donors. We have met virtually with former Pakistani UN delegates to discuss responsible oversight of the project in Pakistan. We are confident that our US Team and Pakistani Team will both work together to diligently lead the efforts of establishing Umeed Hospital with integrity and excellence.
We are honored to be a part of a project that demonstrates the intrinsic value of human life through providing an opportunity for people to get their basic healthcare needs met with compassion and dignity. Umeed Homeopathic Teaching Hospital is committed to providing affordable, compassionate, and excellent health care.
In Pakistan, it is not uncommon for medical facilities and individual doctors to drastically inflate their prices to only attract higher class citizens. The poor are marginalized and forgotten in many ways, even when it comes to their healthcare needs. Umeed Hosptial will prioritize services to the poor. Some ways in which this will be done is by offering weekly free clinics, allowing the poor to receive free critical care at any time, and as a part of their medical training, students at Umeed Homeopathic Teaching Hospital will be required to go into remote villages and offer free or low cost medical care.
Umeed Hospital is being established in Peshawar, Pakistan, and as students graduate and other doctors join in, we anticipate clinics and even other hospitals to be built in other parts of the country and even in other countries in Southeast Asia.
