The recent actions by the CASL Dean’s Office (targeting LEO faculty for layoffs/courseload reductions, raising course caps without respect to pedagogy, cancelling upper level courses without respect to curriculum or program integrity, deciding on and implementing new policies without transparency or consultation with faculty, and disregarding governance processes set out in the CASL Bylaws) have been incredibly disruptive, to tenure-track and LEO faculty, to staff, and to our students.
CASL Faculty members, many of whom are also members of our new campus AAUP Advocacy Chapter, have written a letter to the Dean clearly presenting the immediate effects of these actions, what their likely future consequences will be, and what needs to be done to remedy it.
Please read the letter below. You can add your signature to the letter to the Dean here.
In addition to this faculty letter, there are other actions being taken.
Students and their parents have been calling the Dean’s Office to voice their concerns about these decisions. Students have also put together a own student-only petition, which gained over 300 signatures in just a few days.
Our LEO Colleagues are also circulating a public petition, which students, alumni, tenure-track faculty, and community members are encouraged to sign, as well. Please sign the Community Petition here, and share it with your networks as well.
