Election Reform : Oppose Mail In Ballot Change- Public Comment by July 2

🎉Happy 4th of July-Our Independence Day!🥳

Register your opposition to  voter suppression by mail-in ballot to the League of Women Voters.  Public comment is due by July 2nd. Submit your comment to: https://www.lwv.org/take-action/oppose-proposed-mail-and-absentee-ballot-regulations

The United States Postal Service (“USPS”) issued a new rule on 06/02/2026 that would establish elements of national standards for absentee and mail-in ballots in federal elections. Link to info and other important actions:

Make a Difference

More Election Action:  Help Convince  Hochul to Sign Election Protection!

Immediate action needed regarding the urgent election protection bill, passed by the NY State Legislature, which Gov. Hochul has not yet signed and must do so this month. Also, call the Director of the State Board of Elections to further pressure the Governor to sign this essential bill. For reference, a letter by our Ulster BOE Commissioner Ashley Dittus is included.

Calls to:

A.  Gov. Kathy Hochul- Urgent request to sign bill A5846/S4602 that allows extension of time at polling sites due to accidental or purposeful disruptions.

B.  Karen Zebrowski Stavisky– Democratic Executive Director, State Board of Elections- Request to urge Governor Hochul to sign A5846A/S4602A.

UCDC 7-7. 6 pm, virtual:  UC Fair Taxes Act Explained

County Exec Metzger is proposing a bold, creative way to protect the county from the deep cuts in Federal funding caused by the Republican tax cuts for the extremely wealthy. There will be a webinar July 7 at 6 pm to explain this plan.  It is crucial for this to pass, and we need to be well informed so we can promote it to friends and neighbors!  Link to sign up:

U-Act members--In the spirit of John Lewis' commitment to expanding and protecting Americans' voting rights, join the Power Together/Project '26 & '28 event in the Village of New Paltz Firehouse. Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa will kick off the event before volunteers will have the opportunity to write postcards and letters, register new voters, or knock doors in local neighborhoods. Co-sponsored by U-Act and Indivisible New Paltz. Food, drinks, and good company aplenty.  Join us for an inspiring day!
