Text:
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I want to thank Senator Hinchey/Assemblymember Shrestha for supporting:
1. The New York for All Act (Senate S2235/Assembly A3506)-prohibits and regulates the discovery and disclosure of immigration status.
2. Access to Representation Act (Senate S141/Assembly A270)-Establishes right to legal counsel in immigration court proceedings.
3. New York Not Detention Act (Senate #316/AssemblyA4181-
4. Melt Ice (Senate S8462/A-Prohibits law enforcement officers from wearing masks.
Please do whatever you can to get them out of their respective committees.
Complete Governor Hockul’s Contact Form, https://www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form : Ask to move the 4 immigration bills into law and fund whatever is required in the budget to pass them. The bill, Local Cops Local Crimes, does not go far enough in protecting immigrants.
Economic Justice: Thank Sarahana- Ask For Next Step-
The widespread impact of federal cuts to New York State has been documented repeatedly (i.e. Constrained Budgets and Drug Access; Constrained NYC Budget; NYS Budget Gap).
It has become clear that an increase in tax revenue is needed to assure that balancing the budget is not done on the backs of working and middle class families. In response, a movement and legislation for Taxing the Rich has evolved, and a packet of four bills to raise $40 million annually has been developed by advocacy group coalitions (see description of legislation herein). See lobby opportunity in Events below-
ACTION/CALL:
Assembly Member Sarahana Shrestha 518-455-4436
Senator Michelle Hinchey 518-455-2350

Economic Justice: 3/25, Albany: Fair Share Taxing!
Advocacy and Lobby Days
The April 1 state budget deadline is quickly approaching. This month is filled with opportunities to influence the budget. We need to work to increase state revenue to stop the reduction in cuts that will impact low-income and working families in NY State.
Our focus is on the TAX THE RICH campaign to raise $40 billion annually in tax revenue. There are four tax revenue bills proposed to do this supported by the Invest in Our New York coalition bills (see attached) currently being pushed (see rationale). Lobby day is Weds., March 25 where a multi-coalition of advocates will go to Albany to lobby the Governor and the Assembly and Senate. Sign up for the 25th is not open yet.
Health Care Committee-Lobby Day (registration here) for the New York Health Act (link for information.) Note there is a Mar 11 deadline for registration.
