3/8 Formulated Questions for Meeting with NP Town Supervisor Neil Bettez:

3/10 Met with Supervisor

Jacki:

We would like to know the Town of New Paltz plan for affordable and low-income housing and how that fits into the Comprehensive Town Plan, both short and long term.

What steps has the Town Board taken to develop and implement this plan in 2020 and what are the plans for 2021

Tom R:

s there an objective in the town comprehensive plan to foster (not just allow) low income and affordable housing?

Is there proposed town legislation/zoning to effect such housing? e.g., a new district in Town. Is the town board in favor of the proposed legislation in A9608?

Lin:

How effective are town government officials, planning board members, and zoning board members in working together to advance workforce (low income, affordable) housing?

Tom D:

In what ways do you feel they can and need to work better together, given the housing crisis in New Paltz and Ulster County? As the town attempts to increase options for low income and affordable housing in New Paltz, what tools does it have to ensure that racial inequities in housing are addressed; that opportunities for home ownership are available to people of color and other minorities; that practices mandated by the Fair Housing Act are followed?

Susan:

Can you help us to understand the proposed 640 unit SRO to be built on land that is adjacent to the village and what steps have been taken up to now to transfer land from the town of New Paltz to the Village? Have there been or will there be public hearing(s)?

Is this a private dormitory for SUNY New Paltz?

Would a 10 % set aside for low income tenants be applied to this project? (does the town have a set aside %?)

Would the project run year round or with ebbs and flows of occupancy as a dormitory does?

Jacki:

Closing: How can we partner with you to ensure that affordable/low income housing is established in NP? What do you need from the County to help you in this? Suggestion, Invite Evelyn Wrioght to present to Town Board on UC strategic housing plan

Minutes of meeting will follow after housing committee meets
