How can I join in?

What do you need to know………

Anyone can learn to Round Dance! You do not need to have any special talents. It does however help if you have a partner to dance with although many clubs welcome single dancers.

Ballroom dancing with it's beautiful style and competitive nature can be intimidating. Fortunately Round Dancing is very different with the emphasis more on the enjoyment and social elements of dance. It is much more appealing to everyone.

One difference is that figures are announced just prior to execution creating a dance during which everyone dances in unison.

There is no need for a dancer to memorise a whole dance but it is still challenging for the mind and body as you have to follow a clear set of verbally delivered figures. Most of the figures are either one or two measures of music so are very simple to learn, consisting of only a few steps.

Most of the popular ballroom rhythms are danced such as foxtrot, waltz, cha, rumba and there are even some rhythms specific to Round Dancing.

If you think this might be right for you then take a step with us and find out more.

If you are fortunate you will find a nearby club. Click for a list of Round Dance Clubs. Many of these clubs run regular classes. If you select one it will show the details. Give the contact a call, they will be glad to hear from you.

If you have a general round dance enquiry you can email the Round Dance Council direct.

If you unfortunately live too far from a club we would strongly advise you to take up one of the other forms of dance, as the benefits to your health, fitness and social life are very positive for this day and age. If you require any more help or information you could contact our Secretary who is always keen to help with any query.

'Dress sense?' It has to be something you can dance in while feeling comfortable! No sequins, skimpy attire or expensive gowns needed. However good supportive footwear is essential for your comfort and safety.
