Entrepreneurship

The fourth component in the Grand Challenge Scholars Program is to understand business and have an entrepreneur's mindset. In a world where money is king, solutions that increase the bottom line while simultaneously solving a Grand Challenge are needed. Please read below how I have extended my understanding of business.

Business Minor

I am extremely interested in the nexus between business and engineering and completed a business minor. Additionally, I plan to eventually pursue an MBA.


Global Grand Challenges Summit ENTREPRENEURSHIP Competition

In the Spring of 2019, I worked with a team of six to compete on the national scale down in Irvine, CA. We used my household anaerobic digester as a business plan to help sustain 10 billion people by 2030. We placed in the top 8 out of 30 teams competing.

Idaho Pitch

The Idaho Pitch is an event put on my the College of Business. I entered with the team that competed in Irvine, CA and we pitched the household anaerobic digestion business plan. We placed 1st and were awarded $5000.

GCSP Pitch Event

I have competed in the University of Idaho Grand Challenge Scholars Pitch Event two times. The Pitch Event is where GCSP students have the opportunity to interact with successful engineers in the Idaho National Academy of Engineers. At the end of the event, monetary awards are given to GCSP students who impressed the engineers. I have received the Platinum Award and the Gold Award for a total of $2500 in awarded funding.

Door-to-Door Salesman

In Summer 2016, I worked as a door-to-door salesman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was a 100% commission job and so if I was going to make any money, I had to work well with people. I learned valuable soft skills and ended the summer as one of the top rookie salesmen in the nation.
