In-text citations are used within an essay whenever borrowed information is used. An in-text citation is placed after a paraphrase or direct quotation within an essay. In-text citations should include a parenthesis and author's last name. Different formatting styles require different types of information within in-text citations. At UH-West O'ahu, the two most common formatting styles are APA and MLA style.
