Study Abroad: Scandinavia Public Health Faculty-Led Trip
This trip was a 2-week, faculty-led trip that took us to see public health across Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Seeing Scandinavian culture firsthand was unforgettable. Their cultures, diet, climate and health approaches, and commitment to public engagement is commendable. Reflection: My 1st Study Abroad Experience
Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland for two weeks, immersing myself in Scandinavian culture, language, and their academic environment. During this time, I navigated challenges such as managing daily life away from home and building connections with people from diverse backgrounds. I documented my journey on my website, which captures the highlights, lessons, and moments that shaped my experience (Climate/Public Health).
This experience taught me so much in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Being outside my comfort zone forced me to confront uncertainty and develop problem-solving skills. I did not know anyone on the trip before I left. I also gained a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity and global interconnection, which broadened my perspective beyond my own community. Scandinavian health and wellness habits opened my mind to new ideas and lifestyles, such as Hygge. These insights helped me understand the importance of sustainability and simpleness. These qualities of life helped me better understand leadership and collaboration.
Moving forward, I plan to apply these lessons by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and actively seeking diverse perspectives in my academic and personal life. As I continue my studies and future career, I am committed to fostering inclusive environments and engaging with global issues thoughtfully. This experience has strengthened my identity as a Global Citizen Scholar by deepening my awareness of interconnectedness and responsibility to contribute positively to the world.
