A: The main window & The Matrix control
The program window is split in 2 sections or panels located left and right.
On the left-side panel there is a list of default matrices with a given Label and Formula content.
At its bottom, there is a Menu bar with the program's Save and Setup buttons and a Message box where some feedback will be displayed.
At the right-side panel, the Plots and Mass Attenuation Coefficients will be shown once the selected matrix has been queried or calculated.
By default the program provides some matrices as examples.
For instance, select the matrix labeled ZOUT Bitum by clicking on the respective table row or, by using the navigation bar arrow buttons (in blue).
On the right-side there is a list with the matrix formula and % content:
sodium (30%), nitrogen (40%), calcium (10%), barium (15%) and aluminum (5%).
You can rename the label of a matrix either by:
- inputing the new name directly at the respective row in the table or,
- editing its name at the following bar:
To edit the matrix formula just click the Edit button or, double-click any of the elements listed in the fomula table.
The formula table is converted into an editable text box as shown below:
In order to input a formula for a given matrix the user has to follow the syntaxis:
#Element (space) %Content
and/or,
#Compound (space) %Content
The syntaxis for Compound is shown below for the example matrix Monazite:
Please note that in such matrix the compound uranium dioxide is listed as:
#U1O2 0.4
with the explicit U1, instead of:
#UO2 0.4
that is, without the 1.
Althoug it is technically the same, I would recommend you to employ the explicit molecular syntaxis as given in the example.
You can always switch back to the standard view, either by double-clicking the textbox area or by clicking the View button.
It will not matter if the matrix content does not add up to 100%. The % content is automatically normalized during the query to the database.
To add or delete a matrix just click the yellow + or red X signs at the navigator bar.
When adding a matrix, the program assigns a default label NEW and the current day's date.
The formula content of a new matrix will be empty by default. You can assign a new label and matrix content anytime.
