In 1991, the College of Computer Systems established the COMputer Students SOciety of UE (COMSSO-UE) under the guidance of Prof. Rolando Austria and the recommendation of the former CCSS dean, Nati San Gabriel. CCSS established the organization as a precaution and perceived solution to the mounting participation of students in student activism observed in other colleges. Thus, the history of the organization began. It had COMSSOC as its first name but was registered as COMSSO later on.
The eight diamonds in the COMSSO logo represented the eight former committees – Education, Finance, Membership, Publicity, Research, Secretariat, Special Events, and Sports- that helped the organization's operations. Today, it symbolizes the eight significant branches of COMSSO: Internal, External, Secretariat, Finance, Audit, Publicity, Publications, and Special Events.
The COMputer Students SOciety of UE, or better known as COMSSO, is not just an organization but a close-knit, welcoming community where like-minded individuals collaborate and work towards shared goals. COMSSO strives to address the emerging challenges faced by society, particularly those related to technology, innovation, and education. It serves as a platform for students to unite and actively participate in solution-driven initiatives that seek to improve the world around us.
At its core, COMSSO is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among its members, connecting students who share a passion for technology, programming, and the digital landscape. Through various events, workshops, and projects, COMSSO nurtures talent and encourages the exchange of knowledge and ideas. By creating opportunities for students to network and collaborate on academic and extracurricular activities, the organization not only helps in personal growth but also in the development of skills that can make a meaningful impact in society.
COMSSO provides its members with a variety of activities that encourage engagement, sharing of knowledge and the creation of an active community. COMSSO hosts seminars and webinars featuring UE-alumni discussing the recent trends and skills applicable in technology. Academic and programming contests enable students to refine their programming skills in a competitive setting. For the gaming enthusiasts, COMSSO offers entertaining and team building eSports competitions such as Valorant and Tekken tournaments. Apart from academics, we prepare some activities focused on building bonds within the community, and outreach programs further aid COMSSO as it reaches out to the society through active service.
