As this infographic detailing usage explains, UC Centers for Teaching and Learning offer workshops, orientations, seminars, consultations, and guidance for Senate and Non-Senate faculty and TAs teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Across the nine undergraduate-serving campuses, thousands of instructors and graduate TAs teaching hundreds of thousands of UC students have participated in teaching and learning workshops (1 session); faculty seminars or learning communities (2 or more sessions); TA trainings; and/or instructional consultations over the last two years. Thousands of TAs have also participated in research-based pedagogy workshops, seminars, or certificates coordinated by the UC Teaching and Learning Centers; this participation has contributed to pedagogical expertise as they have worked with UC undergraduates, as well as to their abilities to contribute to teaching, learning, and assessment in faculty or professional positions following completion of their advanced degrees.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty turned to campus Centers for Teaching and Learning for research-based activities to improve teaching. The dramatic shift to remote instruction in March 2020 led to a parallel increase in faculty and graduate student engagement that has been sustained into Fall quarter/semester 2020.
