Goals
The Solace Project has three goals
Assessing the impact of heatwaves on building occupants
Assessing the benefit from a range of mitigation measures
Engaging with public health authorities and local government to enhance population resilience
We have developed a new metric 'Activity hours' that measures how heatwaves can restrict the range of permissible activities of building occupants depending on their age, building type, heatwave duration, and location. We have also built the Heatalyzer tool* that emulates future weather patterns and computes this metric.
*Heatalyzer is a novel Building Energy Modeling (BEM) tool developed to analyze indoor thermal comfort, liveability, and survivability for a range of buildings under both past and future weather scenarios. It allows users to compare these outcomes across building types and weather scenarios, integrates algorithms for creating extreme weather data, and has a user-friendly interface
