Dr. Xianta Jiang received a Ph.D. in computer science from Simon Fraser University (2015) and Zhejiang University (Dual degree), studying mental workload measurement using eye-tracking technology. He then took a post-doc fellowship at Engineering Science, Simon Fraser University, working in the area of human activity detection using machine learning and wearable sensors.

After completing her master’s in Artificial Intelligence from Amirkabir University of Technology, Iran, Elaheh started her Ph.D. at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2022. Her research interests fall in the general area of Artificial Intelligence, with particular emphasis on Deep Learning and Computer Vision. She is interested in addressing real-world problems and challenges, especially if these challenges are related to people’s mental and physical health. Her current research is in the field of prosthetic control.

Kaijie Shi received his B.Sc. degree in geographic information science from Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, Nanjing, in 2019. He received a Master's Degree in computer science and technology from Wenzhou University and will start his PhD at Memorial University of Newfoundland in January 2023. His current research interest is computer vision and TRUE INTELLIGENCE.

Research: Machine Learning applications on Multiple Sclerosis
Sadman Saumik Islam is currently a PhD student in computer science at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Sadman completed his Bachelor’s in Computer Science and Engineering in 2019 and started his Master’s in MUN in fall 2022 and then was transferred into the PhD program in MUN in January 2024. Among many research interests, Sadman is currently focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence to analyze Multiple Sclerosis to reduce patients suffering. Sadman is conducting his research at the Recovery and Performance Laboratory (RaP Lab) at the Faculty of Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Xianta Jiang and the co-supervision of Dr. Michelle Ploughman.

Ziang Wu, a PhD student at Memorial University of Newfoundland since Fall 2023, holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Zhejiang Normal University. Currently, his research focuses on wearable blood pressure estimation.

Soroush completed his Bachelor's in Computer Engineering at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran, where he developed a keen interest in reinforcement learning. Motivated to address real-world challenges using advanced reinforcement learning and machine learning methods, he began his Master's degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2024. His current research focuses on prosthetic control, aiming to directly improve people's lives through innovative applications of these disciplines.
