UCMAS is a child development program based on Visual Arithmetic and Abacus that boosts brainpower in children aged 4-13 years.
UCMAS promotes whole brain development in children by stimulating both sides of the brain (Right & Left Brain) using an innovative visual arithmetic program utilizing the ABACUS as a teaching tool.
By manipulating the beads of the abacus and visualizing it, students aged 4-13 learn to perform mental calculations quickly and accurately expand their mental capacity and develop skills such as multitasking, time management, memory, concentration, and problem-solving – skills that are crucial to success in all areas of study and daily life.
UCMAS not only leads to greater student proficiency and confidence in mathematics, but it also builds the framework for children to develop fundamental learning skills essential to actively succeed in school and every field of their daily life and inspires them to achieve completeness and greatness.
UCMAS applies innovative pedagogical techniques developed by program specialists that include child development experts and child psychologists to leverage educational trends and to maintain a world-class quality program that delivers the maximum benefit to our students.
The Abacus provides countable beads for children to visualize numbers on a base-10 system. The children learn Abacus Maths by manipulating those beads to perform arithmetic calculations such as addition and division.
The word ABACUS is derived from the Greek word ‘abax’, meaning “calculating board” or “calculating table”.
The first Chinese Abacus was invented around 500 B.C. The Abacus, as we know it today, was used in China around 1300 A.D.
It is still commonly used today across certain Asian communities.
Often referred to as the first computer, the Abacus is an instrument used to add, subtract, multiply and divide, to calculate fractions and square roots.
Visual math is the essential building block that replaces the physical Abacus in the child’s mind. As the children gradually learn to visualize the abacus in their mind (virtual Abacus), they learn to calculate mathematical problems using the principles of the Abacus, without the use of the physical tool.
UCMAS is much more than just developing number skills. Using Math as a medium and Abacus as a tool, this program will help develop basic cognitive skills and cognitive executive functions of your child. Cognitive skills are the core skills your brain uses to think, read, learn, remember, reason, and pay attention. Working together, they take incoming information and move it into the bank of knowledge your child uses every day at school, and in life.
This ensures that your child develops these skills rapidly in the first few years of life and build on them progressively throughout grade school. These crucial skills will enable your child to process sensory information and eventually learn to evaluate, analyze, remember, make comparisons and understand cause and effect. Although some cognitive skill development is related to a child’s genetic makeup, most cognitive skills are learned. That means thinking and learning skills can be improved with practice and the right training.
It is scientifically proven that the more your fingers move, the more informed would be your brain. The fingertip peripheral nerve can affect our five major organs (as depicted in the image), referring to the five brain acupoints that correspond with the five organs. The position of different acupoints is reflected on the related distal of each fingertip, also is the specific path for children’s health cultivation.
Through our UCMAS program, the fingers and the sharp edges of abacus beads can be easily stimulated often by scrubbing to activate and strengthen the functions of five major organs and the cerebral cortex.
The 6 – Finger Manipulation, 10 – Finger Activation system, helps in the enhancement of the operation of the cerebral cortex. One of its many benefits is that it helps the Right Middle Finger to stimulate the Left parietal lobe.
