the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is not a recruitment program to prepare students for military service. Although some cadets decide to join the military after graduation, the vast majority of JROTC students do NOT decide to enter the military after high school.
JROTC is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) sponsored character and leadership development course focused on developing self-confidence, leadership skills, physical fitness, and a sense of responsibility within each cadet.
There are no requirements in the MCJROTC, be it physical or mental. Grades in physical activities are determined by effort, grades in academics are determined by knowledge retention, and grades on inspection are based on confidence and upholding to regulations. There are no costs involved, and it does not interfere with sports.
Students in the program are able to participate in competitions against other schools, as well as volunteer for events such as basketball or football games. They are also highly encouraged to attend events such as the cadet picnic and pass-in review.
In MCJROTC, there is physical training twice a week which promotes better health, there is an academic lesson once a week where cadets learn about the history of the Marine Corps as well as the principles they follow, there is a day where they practice drill, which consists of stationary and marching movements, and a uniform inspection, in which they are tested on their confidence, uniform preparation, and what they know.
This is an elective class that meets the graduation requirements for physical education. Cadets are also provided the opportunity to assist in their community through program-sponsored "civic service" activities. Furthermore, cadets assume leadership positions throughout the year, in which they learn how to fulfill their role as leaders effectively.
Parents and alumni can participate in several volunteering events throughout the year. To be able to volunteer, they must fill out the following form:
