Our Story
Dance Marathon is about making an impact on children's lives and a way to make a difference in the world as a whole. Yes, it's a great way to make friends and get involved but at UC Dance Marathon goes way deeper. We are a family and all here for the same reason- to help children and create a better future.
A story from one of our members, Alex Craig:
I joined Dance Marathon my freshman year of high school at Fishers High School. When I joined I wasn’t sure what DM was besides the fact that it was a popular club most of our student body was a part of- it was a way for me to make friends. Over the year it became more than meeting twice a month and attending Dance Marathon, it became a safe place for me. My sophomore year, we fundraised 20k over our goal and I had hit comma club for the first time. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself.
Junior year I was given the position of VP of Morale, the cheerleader of Dance Marathon. I came into meetings and showed people my passion and drive for changing kids’ lives. We are more than just fundraisers, we are world changers.
COVID-19 hit mid-way through my junior year. Lots of tears were shed and frustration hit me like a brick. But my team and I found a way around it, we held one of the only virtual high school dance marathons in the country. We hit 100k and went on fundraising.
The point of all this is even through hardships and fear, we triumph. We are here to change kids’ health and change kids lives. We are a movement of students who have a passion for change. Being a part of UCDM is more than adding something to our resumes, it’s about being apart of something bigger than ourselves. I cannot wait to see how many lives we change this year, and I dance for Izzy and all the kids who are not here with us anymore.
Great way to stay connected and increase YOUR involvement!
